DESCRIPTION:What is Lorem Ipsum?\nLorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s\, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries\, but also the leap into electronic typesetting\, remaining essentially unchanged. SUMMARY:CultSense and ATLAS SIG CT - Bridging Cultures Through Travel: From Theory to Practice
DESCRIPTION:Keynote speaker: Dr.Emily Höckert – University of Lapland\, Finland & Prof.Wil Munsters – Zuyd University of Applied Sciences\, Netherlands \nIntroduction\nHow can travel encourage cultural sensitivity? In a post-pandemic world\, travel and tourism have been regaining popularity. With this regained popularity comes a renewed pressure on local hosts and sites because of increasing visiting numbers. Can cultural sensitivity be a tool to mitigate tensions between hosts and visitors? For the last two years\, the CultSense project (CultSense – Sensitizing Young Travellers for Local cultures\, www.cultense.com) has focused on addressing this question. In this conference\, a joint venture of CultSense and the ATLAS Special Interest Group on Cultural Tourism\,  we will further explore ways to bridge cultures via travel. Can cultural sensitivity be a competence that (tourism) education can work with? How can travel impact students and visitors’ knowledge and skills? In which ways can touristic experiences function as a means to bridge cultures? We are also interested in exploring how (local) cultural and artistic expressions contribute to\, and benefit from culturally sensitive practices. We invite participants to submit their abstract in one of four streams: \n\nEducational Experiences\nAcademic Research\nCases\nPosters\n\nKeynote speakers\nDr Emily Höckert is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Lapland\, Finland. Her research cultivates relational ways of being\, imagining\, knowing\, and acting in tourism settings. She approaches the questions of cultural sensitivity and hospitality at the crossroads of hermeneutic phenomenology and postcolonial philosophy\, asking\, for instance\, how different kinds of hosts and guests welcome and take care of each other. Between 2019-2021\, Emily worked as part of ARCTISEN project team that explored the questions of cultural sensitivity in Arctic tourism settings and developed toolkits and online courses for enhancing sensitive orientation to otherness. She is also a member of “Intra-living in the Anthropocene” and “Sustainable Naturecultures and Multispecies Future” research communities that both examine the interaction between northern areas\, people and the environment. \n  \nWil Munsters is emeritus professor of Tourism and Culture at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. He has published a monograph on cultural tourism as well as tourism studies focusing on built heritage\, museums\, events\, gastronomy\, hospitality\, cultural destinations\, market development\, sustainability\, and research models. He has also co-edited books on cultural tourism research methodology and on anthropology as a driver for tourism research. As a member of ATLAS (Association for Tourism and Leisure Education and Research)\, he was involved in the international Cultural Tourism Research Project from 1994 to 2022. \n  \n  \nConference themes\nWe invite the submission of papers\, cases and posters\, which can relate to the following sub-themes including (but not limited to): \n1.    Cultural sensitivity and travelling\n\nCultural sensitivity\nIntangible cultural experiences\nSocial media for cultural sensitivity\nMobile Cultures\nEmpathy and emotions in travel\nMultiple Belongings\nTourism encounters and emotions\nPopular cultural expressions (music\, festivals\, dance\, etc.)\nTangible and intangible heritage\nMindful tourism\n\n2.    Student experiences and (intercultural) tourism education\n\nIntercultural education and communication\nBridging cultures through education\nEnabling change makers and ambassadors for change\nErasmus / international exchanges\n\n3.    Bridging cultures\n\nArt and gastronomy as a bridge for cultures\nCultural Institutions and bridging cultures\nSpirituality for Bridging (religious) cultures\nDiversity and Inclusivity\n(Destination) Marketing\, Place Branding as a bridge between cultures\n\n\nAbstract submission\nThe main language of the conference will be English\, but to encourage linguistic diversity we will also be welcoming panels in other languages. SUMMARY:ATLAS SIG Gastronomy Meeting - Tradition and Innovation in Gastronomy
DESCRIPTION:Keynote speaker: Prof. Ilie Rotariu – Faculty of Economic Sciences\, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu. \n\nIntroduction\nAbstract submission\nScientific committee\nImportant dates\n\nIntroduction\nThe relationship between food and tourism has grown ever closer: food has become one of the key element of tourism experience\, and tourists have become one of the major market for local and regional cuisine (Hjalager and Richards\, 2002; Dodd\, 2011; Chang and Mark\, 2018). But what is it that tourists seek in regional gastronomy? Is it traditional food\, the ‘authentic’\, ‘real’ cuisine of a region\, or is it increasingly the new\, innovative aspects of food and gastronomy? \nOn the other hand\, contemporary global challenges (global warming\, energy crisis\, conflicts\, inflation\, poverty\, pandemic\, etc.) can leave their mark on the evolution and development of the food industry.  What effects can we anticipate in the near future? \nThe theme of the 2023 Research Group Meeting proposes an approach from the perspective of tradition and innovation in the field of gastronomy. Which approach is best placed to secure the future of regional gastronomy – conservation or innovation considering contemporary global trends? \nATLAS is therefore organising a meeting in Sibiu\, Romania in May 2023 to bring together practitioners and academics to consider these issues. We therefore welcome input from those involved in the tourism and gastronomy fields in the form of academic papers or practice viewpoints around the following themes: \n\nLinks and contrasts between tradition and innovation in gastronomy\nThe attractions of regional gastronomy and food for tourists\nSynergies and frictions between food\, gastronomy\, culture and tourism\nThe development of new business models in gastronomy\nLinks between agriculture\, food production and tourist consumption\nThe role of events in supporting local food cultures\nThe contribution of the cultural\, creative and artistic sectors in developing new food systems\nContemporary global challenges and the evolution and development of the food industry\n\nThe meeting will include a debate on tradition and innovation in gastronomy\, practice and academic paper sessions and regional wine and food tastings. The meeting will be organised along the same lines as the 2014 meeting with the same theme\, thus a follow-up approach will be employed and designed to maximise interaction and discussion between participants. \n  \nAbstract submission\nAll abstracts will be subjected to review by members of the scientific committee. Acceptance of a submission will be based on: theoretical and empirical significance; methodological soundness; relevance to the theme of the meeting and logical clarity. \nThe official language of the meeting is English. \nAbstracts should indicate background\, theoretical/practical implications\, methods and/or data sources and indicative findings of the paper. Abstracts should have between 350-500 words. The titles should be no more than 12 words. \nImportant dates\nAbstract submission: January 15\, 2023 \nNotification of acceptance: February 28\, 2023 \nRegistration deadline: April 15\, 2023 \nEvent: May 24-27\, 2023 \nFull paper submission: June 30\, 2023 \nPublication details\nAll abstracts (max. 350 words) will be published in the abstract book. This abstract book will be sent to all registered participants before the event\, in PDF format. \nParticipants are welcome to submit their full papers AFTER the conference. The full paper submission date is the 30th June 2023. \n  \nScientific Committee\nOrganizing committee \n\nSilvia Aulet – Faculty of Tourism\, University of Girona\, Spain\nCarlos Fernandes – Polytechnic of Viana do Castelo\, Portugal\nCristina Tănăsescu – Faculty of Economic Sciences\, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu\nCosmin Tileagă – Faculty of Economic Sciences\, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu\nVirgil Nicula – Faculty of Economic Sciences\, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu\nAlin Opreana – Faculty of Economic Sciences\, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu\nDumitru Troanca – Faculty of Economic Sciences\, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu\nMihai Tichindelean – Faculty of Economic Sciences\, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu\n\nInternational Scientific Committee \n\nSilvia Aulet – Faculty of Tourism\, University of Girona\, Spain\nCarlos Fernandes – Polytechnic of Viana do Castelo\, Portugal\nCristina Tănăsescu – Faculty of Economic Sciences\, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu\nCosmin Tileagă – Faculty of Economic Sciences\, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu\nIlie Rotariu – Faculty of Economic Sciences\, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu\nViera Kubickova – University of Economics in Bratislava\, Slovacia\n\n  \nProvisional program\nWednesday\, 24 May\nArrival\, welcome ceremony with wine and local specialties\, and overnight stay.\nPresentation of the city \nThursday\, 25 May \nConference at: University of Sibiu\n9.00     Presentations\, with a coffee break\n13.00  Lunch\n14.00  Presentations\, with a coffe break\n19.30  Dinner \nFriday\, 26 May\nConference at: University of Sibiu\n9.00    Presentations\, with a coffee break\n13.00  Lunch (+ tour or activity)\n15.00  Presentations\, with a coffe break\n18.00  Discussion and publication plans\, future meetings\n20.00  Dinner (optional) \nSaturday\, 27 May – Field trip excursions\nVisiting the tourist village of Sibiel (approx. 20 km from Sibiu)\nLocal gastronomy – cooking program with the involvement of the participants\nVisit the Museum of Icons on Glass – unique in Romania \n  \nAccommodation\nThe recommended hotels\nHotel Parc *** – 5 minutes` walk from the college and is in a very beautiful park. \nHotel Golden Tulip **** – 3 minutes’ walk from the college (it has a beautiful\, panoramic restaurant\, on the top floor.
