In an ever-evolving world of culinary delights and travel, the symbiotic relationship between gastronomy and food tourism policies has become increasingly crucial for shaping a sustainable and thriving future. This meeting aims to delve into the intersection of these two realms, exploring how they can join forces to foster economic growth, cultural preservation, and environmental stewardship. By examining case studies, best practices, and innovative approaches, this gathering seeks to unleash the potential of the alignment between gastronomy (either local, regional, or national) with the correspondent touristic promotion, in a synchronous agreement that not only benefits the global culinary landscape but also paves the way for responsible and enriching food tourism experiences. To unravel the possibilities and challenges in this dynamic journey towards a harmonious gastronomic and touristic future is the main goal of this proposal.

Keynote Speaker
Raquel Moreira
Dr. Raquel Moreira is Adjunct Professor at Estoril Higher Institute for Tourism and Hotel Studies (Portugal), Coordinator of the Tourism Information bachelor and co-coordinator of the Arts, Humanities and Languages scientific area. She is an Integrated Researcher at CRIA/NOVA-FCSH and a Member of ICAF Spain-Portugal. She holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Seville (2012), a Master’s degree in Sociology from ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (1995), and a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1988). Since 1988, she has been working on the topics of food and gastronomy from an anthropological and historical perspective. She has also focused on the relationship between gastronomy and tourism, as well as the connection between gastronomy and art. She has participated in various scientific and academic events in the fields of gastronomy and tourism. Dr. Raquel Moreira was jointly responsible for the Tourfly Project – Innovation and Future: Contributions to the Design of Touristic Offer in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon (ESHTE; CIES/ISCTE-IUL; IPLisboa, 2017-2019), which was funded by the European Union (Lisboa-01-0145-FEDER-023368). Besides, she has published several scientific articles and book chapters. She is the author of the book “Queijadas de Sintra. História de um Doce Regional” (Colares Editora, 1999), co-editor and co-author of “Tourfly – Innovation and Future: Contributions to the Design of Touristic Offer in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon” (ESHTE, 2019), and co-author of “Receitas de Reis e Pescadores. Memória e Património Gastronómico do Concelho de Cascais” (Leya/Casa das Letras, 2017).

Abstract Submission
All abstracts will be subjected to review by members of the scientific committee. Acceptance of a submission will be based on: theoretical and empirical significance; methodological soundness; relevance to the theme of the meeting and logical clarity.
The official language of the meeting is English.
Abstracts should indicate background, theoretical/practical implications, methods and/or data sources and indicative findings of the paper. Abstracts should have between 350-500 words. The titles should be no more than 12 words.

The cultural day has been prepared to provide the participants with the knowledge of Sintra’s delights. Sintra as a multiple landscapes’ county, has a distinctive sea front (where we are going to visit Cabo da Rota lighthouse area), the wonderful wines from Colares DOC region, the bread, the suckling pig in Negrais and many other gastronomic local symbols.
The final program will be delivered to participants.

The recommended hotels are:
NH Sintra Centro 4* – A fully refurbished 4* hotel in Sintra city center (ATLAS rate, per night, single room with breakfast – 90€). This hotel lies 5 minutes walking from the meeting venue.
Sintra Bliss Hotel 3* – A fantastic boutique hotel in Sintra city center (ATLAS rate, per night, double/twin room with breakfast – 90€). This hotel lies 5 minutes walking from the meeting venue.
As a touristic place, Sintra has several accommodation options.
Touristic tax: In Sintra all the hotels charge a 2€-touristic tax, per night, per guest.
Arrival Options
Sintra city center lies approximately 30 minutes by car from Humberto Delgado Lisbon International Airport (LIS) and nearly 2h30 from Faro airport (FAO) and nearly 3h30 from Porto airport (OPO). Arriving by train and bus is also available. More information on the arrival to be released soon.

Cancellation Policy
If written cancellation is received before February 1st 2024 a refund of all meeting fees will be made, minus an administration fee of € 50. No refund will be possible after February 1st 2024, but substitute delegates can be nominated.
